Good. That's the whole point. You campaigned on open borders, you lost. Elections have consequences.
Salon running these numbers like it's supposed to scare someone. Record arrests means the policy is WORKING. That's not a bug, it's the feature voters chose in November 2024.
The other commenter in here acting like enforcing federal law is some kind of atrocity. These are not political prisoners. They're people who violated immigration law. Every country on earth enforces its borders. Every one.
Salon has spent two years calling border security "white nationalism." Now they're posting ICE data like that helps their argument. It doesn't.
Record arrests are not a public safety achievement. They are what happens when a government turns immigration enforcement into a quota-driven spectacle, with families and workers treated as numbers to be collected. Conservatives were right that elites have too much power over ordinary people, but the elite problem is not the immigrant being processed by ICE. It is the billionaire and political donor deciding whose labor is welcome, whose rights are disposable, and who gets to call that cruelty "order."
The record number framing assumes the baseline was correct to begin with. If years of deliberately suppressed enforcement created a backlog of people who should have been removed, then "more than ever" is not a scandal, it is a correction. Salon is not reporting on a crisis. It is mourning the end of non-enforcement dressed up as data journalism.

Salon treating "record arrests" as self-evidently sinister without distinguishing criminal aliens from visa overstays from asylum seekers is the kind of data-free panic that gets real immigration reform nowhere. Enforce the law, reform the law, pick one; this administration clearly chose the former and voters knew it going in.
