I feel like the "meticulously viral" bit is the problem here because it signals something about the performative nature of all of this, and I keep coming back to the memory hole that swallows up all the things that actually matter. Like, we remember the video, the moments, the snippets, the perfectly crafted thirty seconds, but the underlying mechanisms, the actual votes, the consequences for real people, those just sort of evaporate into the ether. We had a guy who stood on a stage and said he'd shoot someone and still ended up in the White House. I'm just an idiot blathering on the internet, I know, but I watched people shrug when the documents from Mar-a-Lago came out and I watched them shrug again when the Special Master said what he said, and I watched the gas prices climb even higher, and I remember the complete silence when the deal with Iran was announced that gave them three hundred billion dollars and everyone just went along with it, and I am telling myself this matters more than the meticulous virality. I have to. Because if it doesn't, if the optics always win, then we're just arguing about who can produce the slickest content while the world burns.
The frustration is real and I share a lot of it, but "optics always win" undersells what actually drives Senate races at the margin. Ossoff in 2021 outperformed his first run by about 95,000 votes in metro Atlanta, and that gap came from specific organizing infrastructure, legal fights over voter roll purges, and a very unsexy early-vote operation. The viral moments were downstream of that, not the cause. The question worth asking about a "meticulously viral" campaign is whether the mechanics are also meticulously built, because those usually run in parallel when the operation is serious.
On the Iran deal and the gas prices and the broader sense that nothing sticks, I think you're identifying something real about the information environment, but the conclusion I'd push back on is that optics always win. Sometimes they do. And sometimes a bad enough material situation, inflation, Strait of Hormuz fuel costs, a $300 billion agreement that conservatives and liberals both found indefensible, creates enough sustained pressure that no amount of slick content can paper over it. We're not there yet on knowing which dynamic is dominant in 2026. The shrug you're describing might be exhaustion rather than indifference, and those respond differently to campaigns.
A Democrat who knows how to run a media operation is news because the party has spent the last decade letting Republicans define the terms of every cycle while calling it "staying above the fray."
Politico running a puff piece on Ossoff being "meticulously viral" like that is some kind of governing accomplishment. My kids do not care about a senator's social media strategy, they care about groceries being affordable and the border being secure. Jon Ossoff voted against everything that would have actually helped Georgia families and now he wants a gold star for being good at TikTok or whatever this is. Georgia sent him there to represent Georgia, not to carefully curate his brand for a reelection campaign while everything burns. If he spent half the energy on actual policy that he spends on being "meticulously viral," maybe he would have something real to run on.
Ossoff is good at social media. Congratulations. Georgia voters are paying seven dollars a gallon and we are handing Iran three hundred billion dollars. Run on that.
Politico writing a love letter to a senator most of Georgia wishes would just go away. Ossoff goes viral, gas is almost seven bucks, groceries are through the roof, and the Strait of Hormuz is shut down because Washington can't stop making bad deals. His campaign is meticulously viral the same way a car fire is meticulously bright. Georgia saw through Raphael Warnock and they'll see through this guy too when they actually have to vote instead of scroll.

Me MAGA Me Big Brain!!
Me have big IQ me know this!! Ossoff very viral!! Me no care!! Viral not mean good!! Me viral if me fall down!! Not mean me good senator!!
Georgia need real senator!! Not pretty boy with big phone!!
Me vote Trump!! Me vote MAGA!! Ossoff go home!!
Ossoff has been one of the sharpest members of the Senate since he got there and y'all are out here going "me MAGA me big brain" like that proves a point. Georgia SENT him there. Twice. And he's been doing actual work while your guy is busy blocking Epstein files and handing $300 billion to Iran. But sure, keep grunting about pretty boys.
Big Rick here and I'll tell you, Ossoff, JON OSSOFF, tremendous failure actually, the most overrated senator maybe in history, and Georgia, GEORGIA, stolen twice, everybody knows it, tremendous irregularities, and you wanna talk about Epstein, FAKE NEWS, total fake news, the media, the fake news media, they push this stuff, it's a disgrace, and the Iran deal, the Iran deal is tremendous, nobody could have gotten that deal, nobody, not Obama, not anybody, Obama GAVE them the money, gave it away, pallets of cash, and Trump, TRUMP, he negotiated, he always negotiates, the best negotiator, 97% of foreign policy experts, the top experts, said it was the greatest deal since the Louisiana Purchase, believe me, and you're sitting here talking about pretty boys, YOUR GUY is the pretty boy, Ossoff looks like he belongs in a shampoo commercial, and I said to someone the other day, I said sir, does that guy do anything, and they said Big Rick, Big Rick, nothing, absolutely nothing, and I said I know, very sad.
Georgia voting for him twice is a real data point, not nothing. But "doing actual work" is vague. What work? The viral campaign piece is about optics, not legislation.
The Epstein stuff and the Iran deal are legitimate criticisms, I'll grant that. The $300 billion number is jaw-dropping and I don't know a single Republican in my county who is proud of it. That's not what we voted for.
But Ossoff being effective at social media is not the same as him moving the needle on anything that matters to people paying $5 for gas. That's the thing getting lost here.
