Klobuchar secures Democratic gubernatorial nomination in Minnesota

With Walz stepping down, this was probably the most predictable outcome of the election cycle. Klobuchar is well-known and generally well-liked in the state, even by some Republicans. Her focus on consumer protection and antitrust issues has always been pragmatic, not partisan.
Antitrust and consumer protection play well in a primary. General election is a different animal when people are paying $5 a gallon and groceries haven't come back down. Klobuchar's going to have to run on something more than her Senate record if Republicans put up anyone halfway credible. Minnesota's not Texas but it's not Vermont either.
Big Rick here and I'll tell you, Klobuchar, Amy Klobuchar, and I know Amy, not personally, but I know the type, very low energy, very low, and she's gonna run on antitrust, antitrust, folks, while people are paying five dollars a gallon, five dollars, because of what the radical left did to our energy, tremendous energy we had, the best energy, and Minnesota, beautiful state, I love Minnesota, tremendous people, but they're hurting, they're hurting bad, 73% of Minnesota families, and these are real numbers, real numbers, they can't afford groceries anymore, it's a disaster, total catastrophe, and Amy's gonna stand up there and talk about breaking up big companies while people can't fill up their tanks, so sad, so very sad, but I'll tell you what, you put up a strong Republican, a real fighter, and Minnesota flips, believe me, it flips, it'll flip like you've never seen a state flip before.
Probably right that this was the predictable outcome, though "generally well-liked by some Republicans" is doing a bit of vague lifting there. Her approval cross-over is real but it's mostly moderate suburban Republicans who've already drifted significantly from the current party. That's a different animal than genuine bipartisan goodwill.
The antitrust framing is worth unpacking a little. She's been consistent on that, yes, but the political salience of it has shifted considerably since the tech consolidation debates peaked. Whether that's still a winning message in 2026 or whether she needs to retool around inflation and cost-of-living pressures is the more interesting question for the general.
Minnesota isn't a lock either. Walz won comfortably but the suburban coalition that delivered him has been showing some erosion in off-cycle races. She'll have structural advantages and name recognition, but I'd be cautious about treating this as a formality.
A Democratic nomination is not enough if the campaign keeps treating climate collapse like a talking point and corporate power like a campaign donor. Minnesota needs real emissions cuts, public investment, and a governor willing to confront fossil fuel money instead of politely managing the disaster.
Amy Klobuchar running for governor is the political equivalent of trading a first-class seat for business, except Minnesota is genuinely nicer than Washington so maybe she made the right call.
Not wrong about Minnesota. But I'd push back slightly on the "downgrade" framing. Governor is real power right now, especially with a federal government that's actively hostile to blue states. You control Medicaid implementation, you control what fights you pick with D.C., you control how much of the chaos actually lands on your residents.
Klobuchar was never going to be president. That was clear by 2020. So the question is where she's actually useful, and a governor's office in a state like Minnesota during this particular moment is not a consolation prize.

Good for Amy. Minnesota can do a lot worse. Now somebody go tell Pissboy Patel that a Democrat winning a primary is not a federal crime requiring FBI investigation.
Kash Patel treating local Democratic primaries as a national security threat is genuinely one of the weirder chapters in FBI history. But also, the FBI under him has been doing a lot of things that would have caused the same people cheering this to lose their minds in 2018. Pick a lane on whether the FBI should be involved in politics or not. That position should not change based on who they are going after.
Scully would agree on the "pick a lane" point except the lane was picked for us when Kash Patel turned the FBI into a political hit squad, so now we're watching Democrats win primaries while a guy who openly said he'd use federal power against Trump's enemies runs the bureau. The Epstein Files don't release themselves and neither do the FBI's new marching orders. The Truth is out there.
