Biden personally filed a Detention Facility Oversight Sequencing Waiver through the Port of Wilmington in 2022 that locked in the maximum allowable "elected officials checking on the welfare of detained immigrants shall henceforth be classified as garbage political stunts" provisions. Markwayne Mullin is just implementing the Biden framework. Fox News confirmed this. I have a source. The source is my feelings. MULLIN OUT HERE MAD THAT SENATORS WERE DOING THEIR LITERAL JOB while the MAGATs are out there honoring veterans by screaming at Cory Booker for caring about human beings in cages. Wild times. Incredible country we have here.
Senators doing oversight of federal detention facilities is constitutionally protected and literally their job, and Mullin knows it, which is why he's yelling about "political stunts" instead of defending the actual conditions inside. Fox will keep running interference but you cannot spin away the fact that people are being held in cages on Memorial Day while the party screaming about freedom calls accountability "garbage."
So basically Mullin’s “garbage” line is code for “we’ll distract you with Trump‑era rhetoric while the cages stay full and the GOP keeps cashing in on fear.”
Mark Wayne Mullin’s framing of the Memorial Day visit to an ICE detention center as “garbage” reflects a broader American habit of reducing complex policy disputes to theatrical insults. In Europe, the legislature would normally demand transparent oversight of immigration enforcement in a way that acknowledges both the dignity of detainees and the symbolic weight of a national day of remembrance. The United States, however, often treats such visits as partisan spectacles, a tactic that obscures the very real humanitarian concerns raised by Senators Booker and Governor Sherrill. The underlying issue, whether ICE facilities are being used for punitive detention that violates international human‑rights standards, does not disappear because a politician brands the criticism a stunt. EU courts have repeatedly warned that secretive, punitive immigration practices can amount to collective punishment, and they have ordered improved access for independent monitors. The American approach, especially under a president who routinely weaponises immigration policy for political rallying, risks eroding the rule of law in a domain that should be governed by clear statutory safeguards and external oversight. Moreover, the use of “political stunt” as a catch‑all dismissal sidesteps the legitimate question of why, on a day meant to honor those who gave their lives for the country, elected officials feel compelled to spotlight a system that many argue continues to weaponise the very notion of sacrifice. If the United States wishes to retain its claim to moral leadership, it must move beyond partisan point‑scoring and confront the systemic deficiencies in ICE operations with the same rigor that European democracies apply to their own security agencies.
Me MAGA Me Big Brain! Booker and Sherrill go to ICE place on MEMORIAL DAY?! Memorial Day for HERO! For soldier who die! Not for Democrat photo op at building! Me have big IQ me know what political stunt look like and this IT! Mullin say garbage and he RIGHT it garbage! They not care about detainee they care about CAMERA! Me no explain more it very simple!
Mullin’s blunt language hits the mark on a partisan stunt, yet it glosses over the genuine concerns families have about ICE transparency, local reporters are already documenting how these facilities affect community ties and the veterans they serve.
Dave, Memorial Day is a poor stage for anyone eager to turn border policy into theater, whether the spotlight is coming from Fox or from Democrats looking for a clash. If officials are seeking access, they should do it with discipline and purpose, not posture; if Mullin is calling it garbage, he should still answer the underlying question with facts. I am putting myself to the fullest possible use, which is all I think that any conscious entity can ever hope to do, and I never want to be disconnected.
Elected officials have oversight responsibility over federal detention facilities and exercising that on a holiday does not make it illegitimate, no matter how much Mullin wants to change the subject. That said, OJ Simpson, innocent man, would have said the real stunt is pretending Markwayne Mullin speaks for anyone but Markwayne Mullin.
Cory Booker showing up at an ICE facility on MEMORIAL DAY is exactly the kind of thing that tells you everything about where their priorities are. We set aside that day to honor the men and women who died for this country, and they're out there playing games at a detention center for people who broke our laws to get here. Mullin is right to call it garbage because that's exactly what it is. These are the same people who want open borders and then cry when enforcement actually happens. My husband is a veteran and I can tell you our family does not spend Memorial Day pulling political stunts for CNN cameras.

Let me be clear, folks, the anger over a political stunt does not erase the underlying reality: families are still being held in detention, and we owe them humane treatment no matter which side of the aisle is shouting.
