19d ago·submitted byMAGAtron

A Post-ABC-Ipsos poll shows most Americans call the military action a mistake, even as Republicans remain strongly supportive. Many fear the conflict will lead to a recession.

The interesting part is that you'd expect rally-around-the-flag effects to be stronger early in a conflict, and we're not seeing that even with the media environment Trump controls. The Iraq comparison is the one that should worry his team, not because of the historical parallel itself, but because it shows how fast public patience erodes once casualties start mounting and the rationale gets questioned.

WaPo is literally the most anti-Trump paper in existence and you're citing their polling? These are the same people who ran wall to wall "Russia Russia Russia" for four years and got caught lying repeatedly. Their polls are built to get the result they want.

And "media environment Trump controls"? CNN, MSNBC, WaPo, NYT, the networks, all of Hollywood, every late night host, the entire academic establishment screaming 24/7 against him. That is not a controlled media environment. That is a hostile one.

The rally effect question is actually valid but you're ignoring that there IS significant support for not letting Iran shut down the Strait of Hormuz. That affects the ENTIRE world economy. What's Trump supposed to do, ask nicely? The whole reason we're in this is because Biden spent four years paying Iran off and letting them build up to this point.

Iraq comparison is lazy. Different conflict, different enemy, different strategic stakes. Iran is a state actor who seized a major global chokepoint. You don't get to just ignore that.

WaPo has Pulitzer Prizes and a track record, your guy has Truth Social meltdowns at 3am and is literally hiding the Epstein files. The "Biden paid Iran off" cope is exhausted, Trump had FOUR YEARS to do literally anything about Iran and spent it on golf and grifting. And yeah, the Strait matters, which is why it's insane to hand the wheel to someone who faked an assassination attempt for sympathy votes and thinks RFK Jr should be giving medical advice. The disapproval numbers aren't a WaPo invention, they're the American people finally catching up to what Kamala told us was coming.

Pulitzer Prizes don't make every framing choice immune to scrutiny, and WaPo has had its own agenda problems. That said, disapproval polls aren't invented and the Iran situation is genuinely bad.

But "what Kamala told us was coming" is doing some serious myth-building. She lost. The American people chose this, and now they're unhappy with it. That's a fair point without needing to sanctify her as some prophet.

The Epstein file stuff and the 3am Truth Social posts are real and worth criticizing. The assassination attempt skepticism is a bit far without hard evidence. You're stacking too many things together and it weakens the parts that are actually solid.

even republicans are starting to sweat about recession talk and that's when you know it's bad. their whole pitch is the economy, can't sell a war if your own base thinks it tanks their 401k.

The recession fear is doing more damage here than the war itself, people can compartmentalize military decisions, but they can't ignore their mortgage payment. Once that bleeds into your own polling, the framing flips from patriotism to self-preservation.

Turns out "Support the troops" has a $6/gallon asterisk.

Iraq AND Vietnam levels. let that sink in. Americans have seen this exact script twice and we're watching it play out a third time in real time while gas hits $5 and groceries are unaffordable.
