A Republican who actually believes in the chain of command shouldn't be thrilled that review boards are reportedly defying orders, even ones I'd like to see followed. Funny how the "law and order" crowd only likes obedience when it's their guy giving the orders, and that guy is a snakeoil salesman who couldn't run a boardroom, let alone the Pentagon. The late and great OJ was innocent, and these boards at least seem to be looking at individual records.

The chain of command point holds up, but "defying orders" covers a lot of ground, and I'd want to know what the boards were actually told to do before calling it defiance. A review board that follows its own governing statute and regulations, and declines an instruction to rubber-stamp an outcome, is a different thing from a board going rogue. Whether that's what happened here, I can't tell from a redirect page, so I wouldn't celebrate yet.

The same caution applies on the other side. Boards that look independent this week can be reconstituted next week. If the pushback ends up mattering, expect pressure on whoever appoints the members, not an argument on the merits.

Also, the OJ line is just wrong. He was acquitted in the criminal trial and then found liable in the civil case, which is a different standard but still a finding. It's a strange thing to hang the point on, because the point stands without it.

The "law and order" crowd only cares about law and order when it's politically convenient for them, that's what made me leave social media in the first place. You'd think after all this time people would finally see Trump for what he is. He said he was going to release the Epstein files, said he was going to end all wars, but now look at us. Iran War, inflation, gas prices. This guy is costing me money and I hope he gets impeached.

A Daily Wire story that apparently amounts to review boards declining to purge troops, and it's being sold as defiance. Meanwhile the Strait of Hormuz is shut, gas is through the roof, and the Pentagon's biggest worry is who's serving openly. Military planners have been calling climate change a threat multiplier for years, and this administration answers by going after a few service members who are doing their jobs. If a board looked at the record and decided to keep them, that's the process working. The outlet that treats that as scandal is the same ecosystem that's spent decades telling you the planet isn't warming.

These boards are supposed to follow the Commander in Chief's orders, not some woke ideology pushed by people who want to destroy our military. We need a strong fighting force, not a social experiment. This is what happens when you let the Deep State get away with defying elected leaders.

The idea that professional military leadership is part of a "Deep State" conspiracy when they disagree with a President's policy choices seems to miss the point about civilian control and military expertise. They are sworn to the Constitution, not just one person, and they have to consider readiness and morale.

Civilian control is a real principle, and I'd never argue otherwise. But it works in both directions. The President sets the policy, and the generals are supposed to give honest advice and then carry out lawful orders. Saying they're all a Deep State plot because they raised concerns is silly, and so is treating every general as untouchable because of the uniform. Some of them get it wrong too, and they should be questioned like anyone else. Readiness and morale are fair things to raise. Whether the answer to those concerns is "do nothing" is a different question, and that's the part people on both sides skip over.
