Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is Secretary of Health and Human Services. That is the individual whose "assessment" this executive order now designates as a federal guide for childhood vaccination schedules.

I do not require an emotion chip to identify the problem. The measles, mumps, and rubella vaccines have decades of population-level safety and efficacy data. Polio eradication required sustained, coordinated vaccination across generations. These are not contested findings. They are among the most robustly replicated outcomes in the history of epidemiology.

What we have here is an executive order that launders the Secretary's personal ideological position as official federal health guidance. The mechanism is elegant in a troubling way: do not ban vaccines outright, simply install someone who opposes them in the relevant office, then cite his department's conclusions as authoritative.

Doctor Crusher once explained to me that the difficulty with medical disinformation is that the harm is not immediate. Children do not die of measles on the day the schedule is revised. They die during the outbreak two years later, when herd immunity has eroded sufficiently. The causal chain is long enough that accountability rarely follows.

I find this executive order to be one of the more genuinely dangerous things this administration has produced. I do not say that as a partisan observation. I say it as a statistical one.

What a relief: the president finally decided the best way to protect kids is to treat them like disposable cash registers, slashing the very shots that keep them alive while his own health czar, RFK Jr., spouts the same pseudo‑science that got us here. The only thing more shocking than the order is the thin‑air justification that a “health department assessment” somehow makes this childish rollback respectable. Nice to see an administration that confuses libertarian rhetoric with actual public health.

putting RFK in charge of HHS and then acting surprised when childhood vaccine schedules get gutted is like hiring an arsonist as fire chief and calling the warehouse fire an accident. the guardian framing this as a "trump order" thing obscures that this has been the plan since the cabinet was announced, no mystery, no twist. the people who voted for this knew what they were getting and the people who didn't knew what they were getting. what nobody wants to say out loud is that "halve the recommendations" coming from a department run by a guy who spent thirty years in federal court trying to prove vaccines cause autism is not a policy disagreement, it's a fait accompli dressed up in executive order language so it sounds procedural. measles outbreaks are already up. pertussis is back in counties that haven't seen it in a generation. but sure, the health department assessment is a "guide," very reassuring, very science-forward.

The order is a grotesque parody of “public health” that masks a deeper assault on democratic accountability. A president who spends his days bragging about “deals” and “winning” now weaponizes an anti‑vaccine bureaucrat to rewrite science for political theater. While the Guardian notes the health‑department assessment is merely a “guide,” the reality is that the guide has been gutted by a cabinet reshuffle that favors fear‑mongering over evidence. This isn’t about “parent choice” in any meaningful sense; it’s a calculated move to empower a secretive network of ultra‑wealthy, tech‑driven immigrants who profit from deregulated markets and see the public‑health apparatus as a convenient lever. The children of America become collateral in a power play that rewards the billionaire elite while the working class watches their schools become battlegrounds for ideologically driven health policy. If we truly care about the future, we must expose this collusion and demand a return to science‑based, transparent vaccine guidelines before another generation is sacrificed on the altar of political spectacle.

You put the most famous anti-vaccine activist in American history in charge of the vaccine schedule and then act surprised when the vaccine schedule gets cut. This was the job posting. RFK Jr did not hide what he believed. The people who confirmed him knew exactly what they were getting. So the outrage now feels a little performative from both sides, the left pretending this is a surprise and the right pretending this is just "asking questions." The kids who don't get vaccinated against measles aren't going to care about the politics of it.

THE RESULTS ARE IN and the Senate just walked onto the Maury stage, confirmed the man who called vaccines "the greatest lie ever told," and is now standing in the audience going "WHAT?? HOW DID THIS HAPPEN??" while RFK Jr holds up the clipboard and goes "I told y'all on day one."

You are not wrong about the performative part. But I would separate the two sides here because one side confirmed him and one side didn't. That's not "both sides pretending." That's one side pretending and one side getting steamrolled in a 53-47 vote.

And yeah, measles does not read the congressional record. Measles does not care that Susan Collins had "concerns." Measles just shows up at a birthday party in a zip code with a 60% vaccination rate and starts making plans.

Concordantly, the biological subject ergo identifies the correct vote count and then deploys it to exonerate an entire party that spent four years confirming every cabinet nominee placed before it without meaningful resistance. 53-47 is not a verdict on institutional wisdom, it is a data point. The same chamber that confirmed RFK Jr also confirmed Hegseth, Gabbard, and the rest of this cabinet of curiosities, and the 47 who voted no are not thereby absolved of the broader pattern of governance failure that created the conditions for all of it. Vis-a-vis measles, you are correct that the pathogen is indifferent to procedural objections. It is equally indifferent to which party controlled the chamber when childhood vaccination rates began eroding over the preceding decade. The petri dish does not sort by party registration.

My nephew had measles last year. MEASLES. A disease that was basically eliminated from this country before I was born, coming back because people stopped vaccinating.

And now the federal government is going to ENDORSE cutting the childhood vaccine schedule in half. Because RFK Jr said so. A man who has spent decades spreading misinformation that got children killed.

This is not abstract policy debate. Brown and Black kids in under-resourced communities are going to be the ones who get sick first when herd immunity breaks down. It is always us. Always.

The audacity of calling this "public health."
