The gas tax pause is a pressure release valve for the political pain, not a foreign policy strategy. If the ceasefire collapses, $0.18/gallon off federal gas tax won't matter much when Hormuz stays closed and spot prices are still spiking. Separate the political gesture from the actual problem.

The gas tax pause is a band-aid on a self-inflicted wound; we wouldn't be watching the Strait get choked off if Trump hadn't blown up the JCPOA in his first term and then kept prodding Iran for the last year and a half instead of negotiating like an actual statesman. RFK Jr giving out medical advice while we're stuck in an energy crisis is peak incompetence, though at least he's not as controlled by Netanyahu as the real architects of this mess pretend they aren't.

That JCPOA mess was a lousy deal from jump, gave Iran a pile of cash and still let em act like fools, so dont go actin like Trump caused every hogsbladder this side of Tehran. Iran chokin the Strait and playin games is on Iran, not Trump, and that gas tax pause at least gives regular folks a little break while these clowns sort out the fire they lit. As fer RFK, yeah he sounds off his rocker half the time, but that dont make the border, the gas, or Iran any less of a mess.

"Life support" with no defined metrics for what recovery or death of the ceasefire actually looks like. What was in Tehran's proposal that got rejected, and what specifically fails to meet U.S. conditions? The gas tax pause is a domestic political move being packaged with a foreign policy update, which muddies the actual signal. A paused federal gas tax cuts roughly 18 cents per gallon at current rates; with the Strait closed, that gap between the tax cut and the actual supply shock is not close. The numbers don't add up as relief, they add up as optics.
