This is what happens when government doesn't properly oversee these facilities!! How many elderly people suffered because of this?? Those 21 people better face serious time.
Yeah, but where's the coverage on why these places operate with skeleton crews and zero actual accountability from state inspectors who probably got defunded?
If they were billing for nonexistent patients, this isn't even fraud in the traditional sense—it's just straight-up theft from Medicare.
This is exactly why we need actual OVERSIGHT and funding for inspectors instead of just letting these vultures prey on dying people and Medicare!! Good that they're getting charged but how many of these scams go undetected for years?
$267 million and somehow nobody caught this until now, that's the real crime here.
