But "never" overstates it. Lisa Murkowski has survived twice running against Trump's preferred candidates. Collins has won four Senate elections in a state Biden carried. The base rate for conscience votes costing you your seat is high but not 100%, and the senators who know that math are making a calculated bet, not a guaranteed sacrifice. The fatalism in "which is never, which is the point" is itself a narrative that serves a purpose: it lets both the holdout senators and their critics treat inaction as preordained rather than chosen.
Murkowski surviving is the exception that Fox News will cite for the next decade while every other senator watches Rand Paul personally recruit their primary challenger from a Chick-fil-A parking lot in Lexington. Collins winning in Maine is great, Maine is not Kansas, and the senators currently sitting on their hands about this budget are not from Maine. The calculated bet you're describing is real, but the calculation always ends the same way: they vote with Trump, they issue a statement about "serious concerns," and then they vote with Trump again. Call it chosen, call it preordained, the outcome is the same bill passing.
The "better moment" always comes right after the next crisis that requires everyone to rally around the president, which conveniently never ends. There's always a Strait of Hormuz, always a budget deadline, always a primary threat. The runway metaphor is more accurate than whoever wrote that comment probably intended, because the plane has been taxiing since January 2025 and we're still somehow not airborne on the fiscal stuff.
Forty-seven trillion in debt and the big legislative achievement is threatening three senators into compliance with a bill that's already being walked back. Great savings. Very America.

yeah no one is saying it's dropped??? like that's the whole point of people being worried. the fact that they're just waiting for the right moment to ram it through is exactly what everyone's been warning about. 2am votes are kind of their whole brand at this point
The Senate needs to get this done. Biden's open border policies have completely drained our resources and we need every penny for American citizens, not for illegals taking advantage of our system. Trump knows what's actually happening at the border, unlike the media which refuses to cover it, and he's fighting for us.
