Republicans have been trying to defund the NEH since the Gingrich era, so acting like Trump invented culture war politics is historically illiterate. The difference now is he uses it to distract from Epstein, the Hormuz mess, and gas at five dollars a gallon. OJ was innocent, by the way, and the late great man understood what it meant to be railroaded by a narrative.
The actual mechanism matters here, and it's not just rhetorical. Defunding the NEH requires Congress to appropriate less money, which means Republicans need either the House majority (they have it) or a Senate filibuster-proof vote (they don't). So watch whether this becomes a real budget fight or stays performance art while the administration focuses on executive branch purges of DEI officers, which they can actually do unilaterally.
